I read an article about diabetes in the eye. The article provided me with information about the disease and with all other information that I need.  It included treatment plans, preventative steps to take, facts about the disease, and signs or symptoms to look for.   “Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of new blindness in persons aged 25-74 years in the United States.”  This is a quote that I will be using because it grabs a reader’s attention and makes them aware of this problem.  This source is credible because it came from a list that my teacher gave me and it was written by two doctors.  This source was very helpful to me because it is all about the topic that I chose for my project.  It gives me just about all of the information that I will need and does a good job of explaining everything. This source just gives me a lot of good facts for my project.

RESEARCH:

“Your Eyes”, an article written by Hallie Levine gives basic facts about your eyes and how to take care of them.  One thing that really caught my attention was “They say the eyes are the window to the soul.”  She then goes on to describe ways that we don’t take care of our eyes, like not wearing sunglasses or sleeping in contacts.  There are so many harmful things that we do to our eyes that we don’t even realize.  It’s time we start taking better care of them.

Levine lists 6 major facts about the eyes, some in which I am about to tell you.  The fist fact that she lists is “as you get older, the lens of your eye starts to lose its flexibility, which makes it harder for you to focus close-up.”  The second thing that she tells us is that “poor contact lens hygiene is the most common cause of the nearly 1 million cases of keratitis docs see a year.”  Levine gives a chart of symptoms a diseases that generally go along with those.  This article is just informing people about their eyes.

Levine’s article on eyes was very helpful.  Some of these things that I saw in the article were amazing facts that I didn’t even know. I feel like this article could help a lot of people and encourage them to do more research.  I want to go into Optometry and these are things that I should be starting to learn.  This source could be the basis of a research project because it give real facts.  It’s not opinions.

Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in the U.S..  I read a webpage about diabetes in the eye and it gave me so much information. I read about what diabetic retinopathy is and all of the different things that go with it.  I learned about the different instruments that help diagnose and treat diabetic retinopathy. There are some different options for treatment and ways to manage the disease.  “Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of new blindness in persons aged 25-74 years in the United States.”  This is my favorite quote because it's a statistical fact that grabs and person's attention and raises some awareness.  This source has given me so many facts and information that I will be able to use for my research project. This source is a network source but is reliable because my teacher recommended it.  This page has also been written and edited by two doctors.
